Hearing Aid Technology

When choosing a hearing aid there are 3 things you must consider:

1 VS 2 Hearing Aids –Based on your hearing test results, Dr. Maresca will sit down with you and discuss the pros and cons of 1 versus 2 hearing aids.

Style – What Will It Look Like – There are a variety of styles these days. Each style has its strengths and weaknesses. The decision, as to which style is chosen, should take into account your hearing loss, your ear shape, dexterity, vision and of course aesthetics.

Behind The Ear

Technology - There are many different hearing aid technologies available today. The 3 basic categories are:

  • Basic Digital- This automatic technology's main goal is to make things louder. There are basic programs in this level of technology to make things clearer and to help with understanding in background noise.
  • Mid Digital- This amazing automatic technology is designed to help you hear better, as well as, understand better in both quiet and noisy situations.
  • Advanced Digital- This advanced automatic technology is designed for optimal clarity, understating and understanding in noise. Very distinct hearing that allows for “attention to detail hearing”.

The Hearing Aid Process

Hearing Aid Evaluation - The hearing aid evaluation appointment will last approximately 1 hour. During this appointment Dr. Maresca will explain to you about your hearing loss, all of the different hearing aid technologies, show you the various hearing aid styles, and answer any questions you may have. If you decide that you wish to be fit with hearing aids, Dr. Maresca will take measurements or impressions of your ears. The hearing aid prescription will be written, the hearing aids will be ordered and your new hearing aids should arrive within 3 - 5 business days. Bring a family member or friend to your hearing aid evaluation appointment. There’s a lot of information, family and friends are always welcome. There is no charge for this appointment.

Hearing Aid Fitting – The hearing aid fitting appointment will last approximately 1 hour. At this appointment Dr. Maresca will fit your new hearing aids to you, go over the parts of the hearing aids, how to work with the hearing aids and teach you how to take care of the hearing aids.

Hearing Aid Check - The hearing aid check appointments generally last 15 to 30 minutes. During the first 30 days, it is very important to return for your follow-up visits. Dr. Maresca will fine tune the hearing aids so that they are programmed not only for your hearing loss, but also for your specific needs, where you go and what you do. After both you and Dr. Maresca feel that the hearing aids are set properly for you, it is recommended that you return for regular quarterly hearing aid check-ups for cleaning and maintenance.

The Definition of a Hearing Aid

A hearing aid is an ultra miniature electronic acoustical device that is always too large….
It must amplify sounds a million times, but bring in no noise…
It must operate, without failure, in a sea of perspiration, in a could of powder or hair spray….
It is a product that one puts off buying for 10 years after they need it….
But cannot do without it for 30 seconds when it needs to be serviced!
